The BCCI on Sunday announced an increase in prize money for domestic tournaments, with Ranji Trophy winners getting a cash prize of Rs 5 crore this year. As per the new pay structure, the Ranji Trophy winners, who currently get a check of Rs 2 crore, will get Rs 5 crore, while the runners-up and semi-final losers will get Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a tweet, “I am happy to announce the increase in prize money for all domestic tournaments of BCCI.”
“We will continue our efforts to invest in domestic cricket – the backbone of Indian cricket. Ranji winners will get ₹5 crore (from 2 crore), senior women winners will get ₹50 lakh (from 6 lakh).” The cash prizes for the Irani Cup have also been doubled, with winners being given Rs 50 lakh instead of Rs 25 lakh, while the runners-up who currently do not receive any cash prize, will now get Rs 25 lakh. In Duleep Trophy, the winning team will be given a check of Rs 1 crore and the runner-up team Rs 50 lakh, Vijay Hazare Trophy’s winner will now be given a check of Rs 1 crore and the second-placed team will be given a check of Rs 50 lakh.
The winners of the Deodhar Trophy will get Rs 40 lakh and the losing finalists will get Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champion will get a check of Rs 80 lakh and the losing team will get a check of Rs 40 lakh.
In a big boost to women’s cricket in the country, the winners of the Senior Women’s ODI Trophy will be given a check of Rs 50 lakh and the runner-up team will get a check of Rs 25 lakh.
The prize money of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy has also been increased and the winners are going to get Rs 40 lakh, which is eight times more than what they are getting now. The losing team will get Rs 20 lakh.
Indian cricket’s 2023-24 domestic season will begin with the Duleep Trophy tournament on June 28 while the flagship Ranji Trophy begins on January 5 next year.
Duleep Trophy, which will be played between six zonal teams, followed by Deodhar Trophy (List A) (July 24 to August 3), Irani Cup (October 1-5), Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Men’s T20 National Championship (October). 16-Nov 6) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (Nov 23-Dec 15).
The senior women’s season will begin with the National T20 Championship to be played from October 19 to November 9, followed by the Inter Zonal T20 Trophy from November 24 to December 4.
After this, the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy will be played from January 4 to 26.
