Royal Challengers Bangalore star Virat Kohli was fined 10 per cent of his match fee after his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. As per the advisory issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Kohli was found guilty of “breaching the IPL Code of Conduct” as RCB lost by eight runs against the four-time champions. “Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium Has gone.” Bengaluru,” the advisor said.
It added, “Mr Kohli has admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct.”
Though it was not specifically mentioned in the advisory, the fine was probably imposed because of Kohli’s aggressive celebration after the dismissal of CSK batsman Shivam Dube. Dubey scored a blistering 52 off 26 balls and was dismissed by RCB pacer Wayne Parnell.
A similar penalty was imposed on Mumbai Indians spinner Hrithik Shokeen after his celebration and on-field altercation with Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana.
In the match on Monday, Devon Conway smashed a 45-ball 83 while Shivam Dube played a blistering 27-ball 52 as CSK posted 226 for six after electing to bat.
In response, RCB’s team got out after scoring 218 runs for eight wickets.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis (62 off 33 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36) gave CSK a 126-run partnership for the third wicket till they stayed at the crease.
