Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been heavily fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following an on-field brawl with Mumbai Indians spinner Hrithik Shokeen. After the KKR captain’s dismissal, Shokin and Rana had an on-field brawl in which MI players, including their stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav, intervened. It seems that Rana had said something to Shokeen during the incident which did not go down well with the match referee. Hence Rana was fined 25% of his match fee.
According to an IPL release, Rana admitted to a Level 1 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Mumbai Indians bowler Hrithik Shokeen was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Shokeen admitted a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the Match Referee is final and binding.
Even Mumbai Indians‘ stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav was fined as his team maintained a slow over-rate during their match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
As this was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 1.2 million.
For much of the match, the Knight Riders could not secure victory despite opener Venkatesh Iyer scoring 104 off 51 balls. The Kolkata franchise had set Mumbai Indians a target of 186 runs to chase. The Suryakumar-led side overhauled the total with 5 wickets in hand and 2.2 overs to spare.
