All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a hamstring injury, his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed on Thursday. Sundar has been a mainstay in the Sunrisers team for the season so far but will be unlikely to play any part in the campaign going forward. The franchise is yet to announce a replacement for the spin-bowling all-rounder. Sunrisers posted on Twitter, “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Vashi”.

The all-rounder is a key player for SRH although he has not been in peak form so far this campaign. In the 16th edition of the league, Sudar scored 60 runs at an average of 15 and took three wickets in seven matches at an average of 48.66 and an economy of 8.26. Sunrisers signed Sundar for Rs 10 crore. 8.25 crores in the IPL 2022 auction.
The Tamil Nadu player had also suffered an injury during the last IPL, injuring his bowling arm.
Sundar’s return is indeed a big blow to Sunrisers’ chances of making it to the playoffs this season. Lying at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from their last five matches, the Aiden Markram-led franchise has not been able to match some of the other franchises’ on-field performances. They are going to clash with Delhi Capitals in the next league.
SRH is currently placed ninth in the 10-team standings with two wins and five losses from seven matches played. They haven’t announced Sundar’s replacement yet.
